Carbon soot particles are classified by microscopy into four morphological groups: char fragments, cenospheres, microgel and aciniform. Electron microscopy used in several IAQ investigations found that the indoor carbon soot particles can appear as the aciniform and sometimes the carbonaceous microgel forms of carbon particles on surfaces and in the air of buildings. The particles contain the basic spherical or near spherical carbon entities in a variety of diameters from 20 to 100 nm as both the branched and densely clustered forms.
