Nanomaterials are materials that naturally exist or are manufactured products that measure less than 100 nm in size. Nanomaterials are increasingly used by manufacturers because of unique properties, making products stronger, more durable, and more effective in their application. Due to their novelty and the inherent size limitations, standardized nanomaterial analysis methods are uncommon. Potential environmental and health impacts are often unclear, and it is important that manufacturers incorporating nanomaterials into their products thoroughly evaluate them to determine not only the physical and chemical characteristics of their products, but also the potential for nanoparticle release during usage.
MVA Scientific Consultants utilizes scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) to characterize the size and physical and chemical characteristics of nanomaterials to help clients address their nanomaterial needs. Most notably, MVA has high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) analysis capabilities. HRTEM is a specialized TEM analysis mode that allows for high resolution imaging of materials at the nano-scale such that direct imaging of the atomic structure of a material is possible. HRTEM is a useful analysis tool for characterization of a number of nanoscale materials and structures, including carbon nanomaterials such as carbon black and carbon nanotubes, other nanomaterials utilized in the fields of nanotechnology and medicine, and nanoscale structures present in larger materials, such as structures and layers in semiconductors and metals.
With over three decades of experience, MVA is a leader in the area of nanomaterial characterization. If you are a nanomaterial manufacturer, MVA can provide the analyses to characterize your nanoparticles, providing detailed information for your product that can include particle size distribution, elemental composition, shape, and morphology.
If you are a product manufacturer, MVA can size and provide analyses to show the nanoparticle dispersion in the final product and also test for potential nanoparticle release during product use.
