In the Federal Register of Thursday, April 30, 19871 the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) proposed a transmission electron microscope (TEM) method for the analysis of airborne asbestos levels in the final clearance of a building following asbestos abatement. Along with morphology and the elemental data provided by energy dispersive x-ray analysis (EDXA), selected area electron diffraction (SAED) is to play an important role in identifying asbestos fibers in the air samples.
