Abstract:
Asbestos is a silicate mineral which separates into relatively long fibers. The detection and counting of asbestos fibers in drinking water samples is an environmental problem which requires the use of an electron microscope. Since water samples contain pieces of biological and mineral material, a procedure for identifying individual fibers by electron microscopy, electron diffraction and x-ray energy dispersive analysis was employed.
