Particle Sizing in Emissions Samples by Scanning Electron Microscopy (POWER Magazine)
By Tim B. Vander Wood, PhD
Particle size distribution measurement can be difficult using traditional techniques because of low particulate loading in stack emissions. Microscopical measurement of particle-size distributions offers an alternative that can be performed on very light samples. Using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) enables particle sizing of Environmental Protection Agency Method 5 samples that weigh as little as 0.25 milligrams.
