The Third Wave of Asbestos Disease: Exposure to Asbestos in Place

Annals of the New York Academy of Science, Vol. 643
Abstract:
Although physical contact with asbestos-containing material (ACM) and disturbance of ACM-derived dust and debris is believed to release or resuspend asbestos fibers, only scattered evidence on this effect is currently available. Moreover, most studies of fiber release and resuspension have used phase contrast microscopy (PCM) to measure airborne asbestos rather than transmission electron microscopy (TEM), which is widely considered to be technically superior.
