Particle-size distribution measurement can be difficult using traditional techniques because of low particulate loading in stack emissions. Microscopical measurement of particle-size distributions offers an alternative that can be performed on very light samples. Using microscopy enables particle sizing of Environmental Protection Agency Method 5 samples that weigh as little as 0.25 milligrams.
