Jake is a geologist with a petrologic/material science background. He is experienced in using polarized light microscopy (PLM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) with energy dispersive x-ray spectroscopy (EDS) to identify, categorize, and describe geologic material. He has a broad knowledge of other analytical techniques and instrumentation including x-ray diffraction (XRD), inductively coupled plasma, optical emission spectroscopy and mass spectroscopy (ICP-OES, ICP-MS) for mineral identification and elemental analysis. In addition he has extensive experience in water quality analysis techniques. Prior to joining MVA he was the laboratory coordinator for the Earth Sciences department at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) and was the laboratory supervisor for the Feed and Environmental Water Laboratory at the University of Georgia (UGA).
